How did we go Green and Why Green? ECO CHIC lifestyle
Business and Beauty:
Our eco-conscious Portland community has taught us to think and act green, not just at work or within our neighborhood, but in every daily decision we make. Portland's culture and drive for a better planet helps us to understand and adjust the way we live. Our Green Movement is about global vision, and it starts with each person doing what they can to help save our planet. It all adds up over time. As a small business we can help encourage our staff, our clients and our neighbors to be mindful of our environment.
Here are just some of the ways we are reducing our footprint on the planet:
- It makes sense for all salons to find away to reduce the aluminum foil we use for color treatments. And, of course, we recycle 100% of the foil we do use.
- We recycle our hair clippings! Some of our salon hair clippings go to Matter of Trust, an operation that turns the hair into mats to be used to pick up oil spills in our oceans and seas (clean hair is highly absorbent). We also donate hair clippings to a local garden called Urban Garden Collective. They use hair with the soil to help fertilize and to keep animals away (human hair scent helps deter hungry moles and deer).
- We were the first salon in North America to participate in the Zero Impact Salon program offered by Life Gate through our Davines Italian Haircare Line. This program plants trees to fight global C02 emissions... our salon donations planted enough trees in Costa Rica to offset our own business carbon footprint.
- We cut down our electricity usage by switching to soft white florescent compact 26 & 15 watt bulbs in all of our lighting fixtures. Three rooms are on low-watt sensor only. We are proud to report that making these small changes has reduced our usage by 60%! Hello! Why would anyone not want to change over?
- Our trash bags are bio-degradable, and our water cups are made from compostable corn. We also keep shipments from our distributors down to twice a month.
- Our staff carpools, bikes and takes city mass transit. We promote bike trips for our clients by offering a 5% discount off that day's product purchase.
- Our hair care lines are environmentally sound and human friendly. Both have some of the highest standards in the beauty industry. Not only do they choose organically grown ingredients and sustainable farming practices, but they all work to support healthy, flexible skin and beautiful, touchable hair.
- We always recycle when permitted.
- We are low impact beauty and enviroment.
- We call this ECO CHIC lifestyle.
