Here's what we discussed:
Incentives:
- IRS PRE TAX option: COMING SOON: Employers can give $20 reimbursement pre tax that can be given out to employees who take ride their bikes to work! The state and federal governments are putting these incentives into action. Keep your ears open or just keep asking.
- TRI Met is now helping Employers give their Employees a pre tax deduction when they buy a Tri Met pass. You must go through your employer and Tri Met for more details.
- Smart Strips for your mass loads of electronics can save you money over time by cutting off the slow trickle of energy drawn through standard appliance plug-ins. Just think about all the little lights on our home and business electronics glowing 24 hours a day. Smart strips can help contain all that waste! Stop the phantom energy draw!
- Saving money on solar panels for heating water is a quicker payoff than applying solar energy to your home or business electric system. Energy savings when applying solar energy to electric systems take an average of 7 years before paying off.
- Compact Florescent needs to be safely disposed of. Drop them off at Home Depot, IKEA, or you can go to Metro for closer locations.
- If you have track lighting: Use Compact Florescent light bulbs... they now make a Reflector compact!!!!
Tips: to start the basics to greening your space.
- Florescent compact 26 & 15 watt saves 75% energy waste
- Reduce the faucet flow with a cool disk with a tiny hole that lets less water through! You can find this at any hardware store.
- Install sensor lights in rooms that are not always in use. Change out your light switch with a sensor switch and watch the savings. No more watching others forgetting to turn off the lights.
- Recycle At Work: sign up for free tools and resources. Get Certified. It's easy... look for ideas at www.recycleatwork.com/portland
